Options for Gigabit Analysis Using Observer
Observer can be used in two separate ways in Gigabit environments. The solution you select will depend on your networks total throughput, and your budget.Option 1 is recommended for lower utilization gigabit environments, while Option 2 outlines Observer's wire-speed, full-duplex solutions.
Option 1: Lower Speed Gigabit Environments |

If your gigabit environment's total aggregate utilization does not exceed 1000 Mbit/sec, you may use any Observer product (Observer, Expert Observer or Observer Suite), any standard gigabit network adapter for gigabit analysis. In this environment, you install your Observer system on the span (or mirror) port of a switch, and redirect the gigabit flow to the Observer console. |
