NETWORK INSTRUMENTS RELEASES LINK ANALYST 4.1
Link Analyst now Supports Integration with Observer Product Line

MINNEAPOLIS—June 24th, 2002—Network Instruments, LLC, a leading developer of network performance management and troubleshooting tools for both wired and wireless networks, today announced the release of Link Analyst 4.1 offering tight integration with its acclaimed Observer® product line.

Link Analyst provides graphical network views, route mapping and device status monitoring for both local and remote networks. Link Analyst 4.1 now provides a simple right-click to launch Observer monitoring and analysis functionality for any map item. Instant access functionality from Link Access includes:
   • Start a Packet Capture on Highlighted Map Item Device or Pair of Devices
   • Auto-Create a Filter on Highlighted Map Item Device or Pair of Devices
   • Start Observer with Focus set on current Map or Device’s Probe
   • Start Observer with Focus set on Current Devices SNMP Agent
   • Export a Link Analyst Map into an Observer Alias Table
   • Import an Observer Alias Table into a Link Analyst Map

By associating a Probe with a specific map, Link Analyst can take full advantage of Observer’s distributed architecture, allowing instant monitoring of local or remote devices. All filters and captures offer a choice of either MAC (layer 1) or IP (layer 3) based monitoring.

“Users have always enjoyed the ease of use and instant device or route status information Link Analyst provided. It was a natural next step, once a problem device or connection was identified, to put Observer’s full-featured troubleshooting on monitoring capabilities one click away.” said Douglas Smith, President and co-founder of Network Instruments. “This integration includes access to packet capture for traffic flow analysis and SNMP statistics for device specific metrics. Network Instruments’ products have always gone the extra step to provide complete network visibility, even in switched environments. The integration between Link Analyst and Observer only furthers this vision, providing quick identification to a network trouble spot, then instant analyzer access where it is needed.”

Link Analyst 4.1 is available immediately for $795. The Observer product line includes Observer at $995, Expert Observer at $2895, the Observer Suite at $3995 and gigabit wire-speed, full-duplex Gigabit Observer solution starting at $8000.

Link Analyst’s Observer integration is offered as a free upgrade to existing Link Analyst version 4.x users. Link Analyst maintenance customers will receive Link Analyst 4.1 with their 3Q02 subscription CD.
