Network Instruments® Launches 1 GB Buffer Aggregator nTAPs
New industry-leading buffer size handles higher network utilization
June 10, 2008 – Minneapolis, MN — Network Instruments, a leading provider of innovative analysis solutions for in-depth network intelligence and continuous availability, today announced the release of its 1 GB buffer Aggregator nTAP™.
The new Aggregator nTAP provides the largest buffer on the market, reducing the chance of dropped packets on gigabit links. The TAP provides visibility to both sides of a full-duplex data stream and aggregates them into a single flow, giving engineers greater flexibility when connecting to analysis and security devices.
"As businesses become dependent upon networks to function, reliable visibility into network traffic is imperative to assure optimal performance and security," said Douglas Smith, president and co-founder of Network Instruments. "The increased 1 GB buffer means that organizations are able to maintain visibility and ensure accurate analysis as network traffic increases."
In addition to the larger buffer size, Aggregator nTAPs go beyond conventional TAPs to minimize potential packet loss through a unique pooled buffer design. Competitive Aggregator TAPs have separate buffers for send and receive—once the send or receive buffer is filled, packets are dropped. The Aggregator nTAP pools the buffer to easily handle both sides of the network conversation.
Increased Cost Savings
In introducing the 1GB buffer Aggregator nTAP, Network Instruments reduced the prices of its already aggressively priced 256 MB and 512 MB buffer TAPs.
"Aggregator nTAPs are the best value on the market, priced one-third less than the competition," said Pete Hage, nTAP sales director. "As we achieve cost savings through increased volumes and greater economies of scale, we pass those savings on to customers. Because we design and manufacture our TAPs internally, we have full control and never compromise product quality."
